Public walking trails will provide residents and visitors to the Region of Waterloo opportunities to view and experience the natural landscapes and diverse wildlife habitats of Cruickston Charitable Research Reserve.
When Phase 1 of the walking trails that are proposed in the Environmental Management Plan for Cruickston are completed, there will be about 5 km of trails providing visitors opportunities to view a variety of landscapes – floodplain, alvar and limestone cliffs – and to walk through diverse habitats including: old fields, shrub thickets, forests, and wetlands (on boardwalks, of course). These walking trails will be self-guided with interpretive signage. In the meantime, enjoy a walk through Cruickston along the city’s Grand Trunk Trail. Phase 2 of the CCRR trail system will provide a link between the Preston end of the property and Blair-Moyer’s Landing. Visit the trails' map to learn about trail proposals and return to this page to keep up-to-date with trail development and scheduled openings. Individuals or groups wishing to enquire about volunteer opportunities on our trail system should go to “Contact Us”. What’s happening along Cruickston Trails? Signs reading “Cruickston Charitable Research Reserve” are being posted at the property’s edge to acquaint neighbours and visitors with the boundaries. Cruickston lands on either side of the Grand Trunk Trail are posted private property and users of the Grand Trunk Trail are reminded to stay on that trail. These signs will remain in place until Cruickston Charitable Research Reserve maintenance and interpretive signs are prepared and put in place. |
