Plans are underway to establish the Cruickston Interpretive Centre. During autumn 2002, the Board of Directors of CCRR retained PLANT Architect Inc. of Toronto to undertake a work plan for the centre. The pre-design phase is underway and includes the detailing of the program requirements, the adjacent interpretive landscape (including building site analysis and the development of the buildings programs) and physical assessment of historical buildings. Located within Cruickston Charitable Research Reserve, these facilities, which will also include a library and archives, will be an integral component in the delivery of events, programs and activities to be offered by CCRR in resources interpretation and environmental education. These facilities will incorporate historic structures within CCRR including two limestone buildings (circa 1840) – a 1½-storey farmhouse with a one-storey side wing and a rare slit-window stone barn adjacent to the farmhouse. Plans include establishing a welcoming centre for visitors to CCRR, a trailhead for the CCRR trail system, as well as the administrative centre for Friends of Cruickston. |
