The Ontario Children’s Outdoor Charter  is encouraging kids to get outside and get active. At rare, we couldn’t agree more! The first of its kind in Canada, the Charter highlights 12 exciting outdoor activities for kids and families to enjoy, along with a vision and principles that we fully support. You can take part in many of these activities right here at rare:

Follow a trail: with over 8km of trails to explore, check out our trails map, or drop in to chat with us about some of the great features you can see at rare

Harvest something to eat: Have you been to visit our Springbank Gardens? Plan a school trip with your class, rent a community plot for your family, or volunteer some time in our Food Bank Garden.

Play in the snow: With the recent completion of the rare ECO Centre, check out the winter school programs available for your class trips. You can always join us for a snowshoe hike in the winter, or come on your own to explore the winter wonderland at rare.

Observe plants and wildlife: Bird watching, mushroom forays, butterfly hikes, and more, at rare we offer year-round opportunities to see and learn about plants and wildlife- check out our events page to see what we have coming up!

Create an outdoor adventure: Try your hand at something new, volunteer with rare today to share your skills or learn something new.  Kids aged 6 to 12 can become adventurers during our March Break and Summer ECO Camps!

Whether you are a life-long nature lover or a first time hiker, there is something at rare to get Every Child Outdoors!
